“We live in a small suburb outside of Panama City. It has all the modern convenience you could want, yet it’s not congested or touristy like the bigger cities. It’s a great place to raise a family. It’s peaceful. I always exhale gently when I pull in the driveway.”

Florida is known for sunshine, world-class beaches, and a waterfront lifestyle – and nowhere captures this spirit like the eastern panhandle. It is home to a variety of renowned beach destinations such as Panama City Beach, giving it prime access to sun, sand, and surf. It also has some of the state’s most beautiful bays and inlets, making it a mecca of outdoor water activities and quaint fishing towns. There is a heavy emphasis on environmental conversation, and it hosts a variety of national parks, estuaries, and protected wildlife reserves that make the area one of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes in the country. Despite its tropical vibe, the eastern panhandle has held on to its traditional southern values: hospitality, integrity, and community are easily found in everyday life.

In 2018, Hurricane Michael made a category-5 landfall on the eastern Florida Panhandle, leaving a wake of catastrophic damage. In the days and weeks that followed, Truland Homes saw a community that was desperate to rebuild. So, we rushed to pitch in. Over the past year, we have built a vision of rebuilding the hundreds of homes and communities around Panama City that have been devastated. We are actively building in the area today, building neighborhoods, homes, and relief housing for the local communities.

Panama City

Panama City is a port town that sits on the mouth of St. Andrews Bay. Founded as a shipping hub, Panama City is a waterfront mecca for fishing and water sports enthusiasts. Its four marinas, mild climate, and miles of bayfront coastline make it an ideal location for kayaking, boating, and reeling in the day’s catch. It is a 10-mile trip across the bay to Panama City Beach, giving it the perfect way to access to the ‘world’s best beaches’ while maintaining its quiet lifestyle. But it also has a proper (yet colorful) downtown area with its own brand of restaurants, cultural venues, and entertainment district, as well as a thriving business district and international airport. It’s a great time to set up shop in this waterfront oasis – future job growth is high and the unemployment rate is slightly below the national average. Our homes in Panama City not only help with rebuild efforts – they provide a foundation for future communities to be even stronger than they were before. We’re honored to be part of it.

Panama City Beach

Picture this: living with constant access to some of the country’s best beaches, a huge variety of shopping and dining opportunities, and a mild and tropical climate. Think it’s a pipe-dream? In Panama City Beach, it’s not! This well-known beach destination is also home to a vibrant local culture that lives in the city year-round. Residents enjoy all of the activities and amenities of a popular beach town, plus some great local gems that we won’t spill the beans on. There are also many annual festivals and events throughout the city that keep the community unique and close-knit. There are numerous subdivisions throughout the city that are full of charming bungalow-style cottages and sweet southern neighbors, as well as quiet lakefront homes with the coo of neighboring whippoorwills. If you want to live in tropical beach bliss, you’ll love living in a Panama City Beach Truland home.

Santa Rosa Beach

Santa Rosa Beach is the largest beach neighborhood in South Walton. It sits between a 26-mile stretch of the state’s famed Emerald Coast and the beautiful Choctawhatchee Bay. Its varied landscapes allow plenty of fun for active families, from thrilling watersports to legendary fishing opportunities and scenic hiking trails. Downtown, Santa Rosa Beach has all of the energy and amenities you would expect from a popular beach town – amazing eats, cool craft breweries, top-notch shopping, and more. But there’s also a sweet southern vibe to the area; residents call to one another from their porch swings, enjoy playdates at the local kids’ art club, and frequent the local farmers market. Housing is varied – you can find luxurious beach homes, quaint lakefront cottages, and sweet southern bungalows all within minutes of one another. Our Santa Rosa Beach homes capture the city’s vision of a luxurious lifestyle framed within a quiet southern town.

Port St. Joe

The residents of Port St. Joe call it “a small town with a big heart”. This picturesque port city sits on the mouth of St. Joseph Bay and offers its residents a restful respite from the fast-paced beach cities nearby. The historic downtown area is a postcard portrait of old-world facades, mom-and-pop antique shops, and rustic seafood restaurants. The community is laid-back and family-friendly; you’ll frequently catch a homecoming parade or city square cook-out going on. The waterfront marina provides easy boat access to the bay and some of the best fishing holes in the state. Of course, it wouldn’t be Florida without some gorgeous white-sand beaches – and Port St. Joe has plenty of those in its backyard. But those who live in Port St. Joe say that it is the people who make this place so special – a people who are kind, welcoming, and always ready to lend a neighborly hand. That’s why Truland Homes fits so well into this area – we build our homes with the same nod to community and relationships, right in Port St. Joe.
